Victor Heiberg – innovative Brunswick architect and builder
Join architect Adam Newman NWMN for a compelling presentation on the little-known but remarkable local builder Victor Julius Thor Madsen Heiberg (1884–1951). Born in Denmark and later based in Melbourne, Heiberg produced a body of work—many examples centred in Brunswick—notable for its eccentricity, inventiveness, and rich architectural detail. His buildings blend eclectic styles with playful geometries and experimental construction techniques.
Through an architectural and technological lens, Adam will examine Heiberg’s distinctive design language: from art nouveau flourishes and enfilade plan forms to hidden entrances, salvaged materials, and mirrored compositions. The talk will draw on both attributed and non-attributed buildings to illuminate one of Brunswick’s most original design figures.
